Summer festivals in Paris

02-08-2016

Summer is a great time to explore Paris. From rock festivals to open-air cinemas, there is pretty much everything for everyone. We give you a short list of upcoming festivals and events that you must watch out for in Paris this season.

1. Rock en Seine Festival

Be sure to have some rocking time this August! Catch up with some of the biggest bands at the annual Rock en Seine Festival that takes place at Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, on the outskirts of Paris. It is a 460-hectare garden that has been listed in the French 'Jardins remarquables" or 'remarkable gardens' by the French Ministry of Culture.

With more than 65 pop and rock bands, it is one of the most popular musical events in France and Europe. The 3-day event that runs from August 24-August 26, 2018 will have 5 different stages for you to discover rock, pop, electro, folk and music exhibitions.

The popular festival that is being organised each year since 2003 is much more than just another musical event. It strongly believes in the promotion of young artists, new discoveries in the field of music, artistic education, and sustainable development. You can expect to discover some amazing music, young talents and meet new people. Tickets for Rock en Seine festival 2018 are selling fast, so go grab yours now!

2. Paris Plages

Soak in the sun on Seine banks that are transformed into sandy beaches for about 4 weeks from July 7 to September 2. You will find everything you can ask for at a beach - open air attractions, deckchairs, food trucks, beach games and activities, refreshment areas and, of course, sand. The atmosphere is that of a perfect beach resort!

The beaches are spread across 3 spots in Paris and the entry is free of cost. All these Paris Plages (beaches) remain open from 09.00 am to 12:00am.

Do you love water sports? Head to Bassin De La Villette, which is one of the 4 spots for Paris Plages, to enjoy rowing and kayaking. Visit the Voie Georges Pompidou for tai-chi lessons, dance workshops and more. It is easily accessible by public transport, as are the other 3 Paris Plagues areas, and there is also cheap parking on the Georges Pompidou.

Not an activity person? Just want to chill? Go grab a beer at the beach bar and get set to show off your beach body that you have been working out on for so long now!

3. Fete des Tuileries

Enjoy the traditional Fete des Tuileries, a fun fair which is equally popular among children and adults. Seek unlimited fun with over 60 rides and attractions in Jardin des Tuileries or the Tuileries garden. The garden has got a cultural feel to it and is quite a popular spot among the locals.

The entry to the fair is free of cost, however you will be paying for the rides and other attractions.

Classic carrousel horses and bumper car rides are sure to remind you of your childhood. Other fun activities such as ring-throwing will also be spotted. Walk around the fair to also try the traditional fun-fair foods at the stalls with candies, doughnuts, desserts, crepes, and candyfloss.

4. Open Air Cinema

Are you a movie buff? Come relax on the lush green lawns of Parc de la Villette and enjoy the amazing La Villette open-air cinema. The capital's largest urban park showcases French and international films, both latest and classics. All the films are played in their original language and foreign films have French subtitles.

The event attracts thousands of local film fans as well as tourists and visitors. Each year, the event has a unique theme.

The event is currently going on and is scheduled for every evening from July 18 to August 19. You will have the option to rent chairs and blankets on the spot for an even more relaxed and comfortable screening. The entry to the event is free.

Happy Summer!
