Parking at Belvedere-Schlossgarten: what to expect

Parking at Belvedere-Schlossgarten is mainly a choice between nearby public garages and short-stay street parking. There is no visitor car park directly at the palace entrances, and the central location means street spaces can be difficult to find. The Schlossgarten itself is free to enter, but nearby parking is not automatically free.

The Upper Belvedere is at Prinz-Eugen-Straße 27 and the Lower Belvedere at Rennweg 6. The garden stretches between them, so choose a garage and entrance that match the part of the site you plan to visit.

Nearby garages for a longer Belvedere visit

Garages are the more practical option when you expect to stay for several hours. Visitors to the Belvedere can park for up to 6 hours for €6 in participating garages when the parking ticket is validated at the ticket desks of the Upper or Lower Belvedere. This special rate applies at the garage by Palais Schwarzenberg, entered from Prinz-Eugen-Straße, and the garage at Schwarzenbergplatz, entered from Am Heumarkt 39. Street parking rates and time limits near Belvedere

The area is within Vienna’s city-wide short-term parking zone. On working weekdays, it generally operates from 09:00 to 22:00, with a usual maximum stay of two hours. The rate is €1.70 per 30 minutes, or €3.40 per hour, with a two-hour maximum of €6.80.

There are no conventional roadside parking meters. Buy a paper parking ticket in advance or use an approved digital parking service. A free 15-minute ticket is available for very brief stops, but it does not make a museum visit or garden walk free of charge. Always follow the signs on the exact street, as local restrictions can differ.

Is street parking suitable for a Belvedere museum visit?

Usually not for a full museum visit. The two-hour limit is shorter than the time many visitors need for the palace and gardens, and moving the car during the visit is inconvenient. A garage is a safer choice when you want to stay beyond the short-term limit or avoid searching for a space on arrival.

At weekends and on public holidays, street parking is generally free in the short-term zone unless signs state otherwise. Free spaces are not guaranteed, and loading restrictions, residents’ areas or other marked controls still apply.

Parking rules and penalties in the Belvedere area

Display a valid paper ticket clearly or complete the digital parking transaction before leaving the vehicle. Do not exceed the permitted stay, even if you paid the maximum street-parking amount. Check signs at the parking bay for stopping bans, special zones and any shorter limit.

A typical Vienna parking offence notice is €36, with an upper limit of €90 for an on-the-spot penalty. It normally has to be paid within 14 days. If it is not paid on time, the matter can proceed to an administrative penalty process and the final amount may be higher.

Free access to the Schlossgarten is different from free parking

Entry to the main Schlossgarten is free, but opening hours vary by season: it generally opens from 06:30 or 07:00 and closes between 17:30 and 21:00, depending on the month. These garden hours do not change the parking restrictions on surrounding streets.

Allow extra time to walk between the Upper and Lower Belvedere, particularly if you leave the car at a garage near only one side of the grounds. The garden has several terraces and stairways, so the closest practical entrance depends on your destination and mobility needs.
