Parking in Hernals: street rates and short-stay zones

Hernals is covered by Vienna’s city-wide short-stay parking zone. On weekdays, except public holidays, paid parking generally applies from 09:00 to 22:00, with a maximum stay of two hours. Check the signs when entering a street, as resident-only areas and local restrictions can apply.

From 1 January 2026, Vienna’s parking tickets cost €1.70 for 30 minutes, €3.40 for one hour, €5.10 for 90 minutes and €6.80 for two hours. A 15-minute ticket remains free, but it cannot be combined with another ticket. Use a paper ticket or mobile parking; there are no ticket machines on the roadside.

Hernalser Hauptstraße parking limits

Hernalser Hauptstraße has a separate business-street arrangement in the signed sections between Hernalser Gürtel and Güpferlingstraße and around Elterleinplatz. Paid short-stay parking applies on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00. The maximum stay is 90 minutes, so the relevant ticket costs up to €5.10.

Look for the business-street signs and follow the displayed hours rather than relying only on the general Hernals rules. Outside the stated paid periods, other signs, loading restrictions and resident parking controls can still affect where you may stop.

Hernals garages for longer stays

A garage is usually more practical than moving a car every two hours. The BOE car park in Haslingergasse has 24-hour access, a €2.40 hourly rate and a €24 daily maximum. Its entrance height is 2.10 metres.

The Interspar car park on Jörgerstraße is also open around the clock. The standard rate is €3.10 per hour, with a €27 maximum for 24 hours; an evening rate of €11 applies from 19:00 to 08:00. The entrance height is 2.0 metres, so check your vehicle dimensions before driving in.

Free parking in Hernals and outside paid hours

Short-stay parking is free outside the general charging hours, but only where local signs do not impose another restriction. During the controlled period, the free option is a valid 15-minute ticket. It is intended for a brief stop and cannot be extended by adding further tickets.

Do not assume that a free space near a residential building is unrestricted. Resident parking signs, stopping bans, loading areas and marked business-street rules take priority over the general timetable.

Parking rules and penalties in Hernals

Display a valid paper ticket correctly, or start a mobile parking session before leaving the vehicle. Keep within the permitted time and do not use several tickets to extend the maximum stay. From 1 January 2027, exceeding the permitted time, setting the parking clock incorrectly or displaying a ticket improperly carries a €60 penalty.
