Parking in Hamburger Hafen depends on your terminal, length of stay and whether you are dropping off passengers or leaving a car for a cruise. Check the exact terminal before choosing a car park: Steinwerder, Altona and HafenCity do not share the same parking arrangements.

Choose the right Hamburger Hafen parking area

The port covers several separate areas, so a car park that suits one cruise centre may be inconvenient for another. Steinwerder is on the southern side of the Elbe, while Altona and HafenCity are north of the river. Use the terminal shown in your travel documents as the starting point for your parking decision.

Parking at Cruise Center Steinwerder

Parking A at Cruise Center Steinwerder has more than 1,500 spaces and is intended for cruises departing from or arriving at that terminal. High demand can mean that drivers are directed to gravel or edge areas along the access roads and holding areas, so follow on-site instructions.

A pre-booked terminal tariff for 21–23 September 2026 is €79. Prices vary by travel dates and availability, so advance booking is more useful for a multi-day cruise than arriving without a plan. The terminal’s drop-off area allows up to 10 minutes free, but this is not a free long-stay parking option. There is no shuttle from Steinwerder to the Altona or HafenCity cruise centres.

Parking near the Altona Cruise Center

Parkhaus Holzhafen on Große Elbstraße is about 300 metres from the Altona Cruise Center, approximately a three-minute walk. It is open 24 hours, has around 380 spaces and a maximum vehicle height of 2.10 metres.

The listed short-stay rate is €4 per started hour, with a maximum of €30 per 24 hours. This makes it suitable for a short visit, an overnight stay or a cruise when the terminal is Altona. Check the height limit before travelling with a large vehicle or roof box.

Hamburger Hafen car-park rates for short and overnight stays

Tiefgarage Hafentor near the Landungsbrücken charges €2.50 per started half-hour, up to €30 during its main operating period from 06:30 to 02:00. The night tariff from 02:01 to 06:29 is €2.00. Access for drivers with vehicles already parked remains possible during the night closure.

For a longer stay, compare the total cost rather than the first hourly rate. A 24-hour maximum can be more predictable than repeated short sessions, while terminal parking may be simpler when luggage and embarkation times are the priority. For a cruise lasting several days, reserve a space where the tariff covers the whole travel period and confirm the terminal before paying. Steinwerder parking is only practical for sailings using Steinwerder, while Holzhafen is positioned for Altona. Do not assume that a space at one cruise centre includes a transfer to another.

Keep the booking details, vehicle registration and arrival instructions available when you travel. At busy times, allow extra time for luggage, terminal access and possible directions to an overflow parking area.

Street parking and free stopping at Hamburger Hafen

Roadside parking around the working harbour is limited and should not be treated as a reliable cruise parking plan. Port access roads, loading areas and marked drop-off lanes can have separate restrictions. Park only in a marked bay and follow the sign at the exact location.

The free period at the Steinwerder drop-off area is limited to 10 minutes. It is intended for brief passenger movements, not for leaving a vehicle while visiting the harbour or taking a cruise.
