Best things to do in Amsterdam in 3 days – Day 1

26-01-2016

o you thought Leidseplein and Van Gogh Museum was all there was to do in Amsterdam? Guess again! The city is teeming with life and many interesting spots to visit and things to do. So if you’re crashing in Amsterdam for a couple of days, pick some of our insider tips when you are planning your trip. Today we share with you the first part out of three to help you make your trip a success.

Day 1

#1 Breakfast time

Start your day with a perfect coffe at Coffee Roastery– they have four different locations here in Amsterdam. They roast different type of coffe beans from different part of the world. Choose the most convenient place for you and get your day started with a fresh coffe and fresh baked french croissant.

#2 Wertheimpark

Feeling like going for a walk? Why not continuing your day by visiting the Wertheimpark? The park is located in a former Jewish quarter. A calm and tranquil place where one can always spend a relaxing time. In the park you will find an Auschwitz monument made by Jan Wolkers, which has broken mirrors placed on the ground, showing the sky. This is to portray the sky after Auschwitz that will never be the same.

#3 Karthuizerhof

It’s time to sit down and take a break. How about having some pancakes? And not just any pancakes! At the Karthuizerhof you will be served by David who makes his all-famous homemade pancakes. The venue is a 14th century monastery that has been remodelled into a 20th century subsidised housing and open garden space.

#4 Anna + Nina

Ladies, are you itching for some shopping? Head to Anna + Nina which is the place to go for minimalist jewelry with a luxurious look and girly touch. This boutique offers small earrings and studs to discreet rings and high quality necklaces. The designs are very surprising and fun! And not unimportantly, the jewelry is also very reasonably priced. You can find this cozy store at Gerard Doustraat 94 and Herengracht 369.

#5 Waterloo Market

Are you more into vintage bargains? At Waterloo Market you’ll be able to find clothing, fashion and local Amsterdam goods. This vintage market is open almost everyday except from Sundays. So why not looking around and grab some new items for your closet back home?

#6 Fishmarket ‘Nieuwmarkt’

The streets of Amsterdam are busy as usual. Why not have a fish snack at one of the best fishmarket spots of the city? Located around Nieuwmarkt, this fishmarket offers the best of the best for all appetites. Must try: Haring with onions and pickles.

# 7 Be a Amsterdammer

Still some energy left? There are more things to do in Amsterdam. Walk around and act like an Amsterdammer and visit some hotspots for late afternoon drinks. For those that want to escape the touristy bars and pubs nearby Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein, there are many hidden alternatives ‘Amsterdammers’ go to. Go around Amsterdam East to Bar Bukowski named after the writer Charles Bukowski of whom you’ll find many quotes around the place. Or do you prefer Amsterdam West? Check out De Hallen, a food paradise on earth but also nice for just a drink or watching a movie.

#8 Pikoteo

A small new gem outside the chaotic city centre. At PIKOTEO you can try their unique tapas menu: an unusual mix of the traditional Spanish tapas and the street food market in South East. At PIKOTEO you will find as well a good selection of beers and wines and you will never get bored to their special cocktails menu!

A cosy place to go for a relaxing dinner or enjoy a drink (or more) with some friends just in front of the typical Dutch canal.

That was a day with tons of things to do, yet there is still so much more to discover in Amsterdam! Check out here to know what you could do for your second day...
