Why to invest in the Sharing Economy?

04-02-2016

When was the last time you hitchhiked?

Isn't hitchhiking an activity that we would allocate today to the new sharing economy?
Isn't borrowing a hammer from your neighbor equally part of the sharing economy?

The "sharing economy" is not new, it has always been there. What is new is the technology that allows us to share our assets easier.
Today we hitchhike online with Blablacar or rent our neighbor's car through Drivy or Snappcar. We sleep in other people's apartment when we go on holiday and instead of parking our car in the streets, we book parking at a private parking space with Mobypark.
But we are talking about assets, what if you can even share pets?! Borrowmydog or Yourdogadvisor.

The key element is that we are moving those sharing solution from an offline to an online environment, and the evangelist that allows us to do so is technology. It is technology that makes it easier and safer and enables us to reach larger audiences.

But how do people perceive the sharing economy? According to PWC, 81% of the US population agrees that it is less expensive to share goods than to own them personally and 76% agree that it's also better for the environment.

The sharing economy is not only just a peer-to-peer way of interacting. It is changing the way we market our products, the way we build online communities and the way people communicate with each other. The sharing economy will stay and mainly the younger generations are the ones for whom it comes natural to share things with other peers online.

And to put some numbers out there, in 2014 the size of the global sharing economy represented 15 billion and by 2025 it is expected to reach 335 billion.

The sharing economy has changed the way people trade, and it shapes and will continue to shape policies. The future of trading looks completely different as it is today. We will achieve less ownership and more sharing.

You can invest in the sharing economy as well. Mobypark is crowdfunding and you can be also part of it by becoming a shareholder.
